We decided today would be a bike day. Also, we decided to bike back to the Berlinische Gallerie that had not been open on Tuesday when we were there. It was, for me, a bit of an adventure because I was not used to biking in traffic. I soon became accustomed to the bike lanes and traffic (but not the cobblestones) and only once did I almost run down a pedestrian. Surprisingly, to me anyway, we got to the gallery in about 45 minutes. Also to my surprise and joy they even honoured our discount resulting from having visited the Jewish Museum, even though we had forgotten to bring our ticket stubs. What was most surprising was to enter the first exhibit and to find Aidan there in the crowd. Before he could turn around I took his picture. Of course when I did manage to get another shot, I realized it wasn’t Aidan in person…
and in fact it wasn’t even this wasn’t even Aidan’s avatar.
It was saying something about the tension between interpreting an artistic work based on its historical context as opposed to somehow understanding the intent of its author. Of course all we know is that anything is art – whether or not it’s good art, that’s the question and just a matter of opinion.
We checked out some other people at the show, but they didn’t have anything much to add to the discourse.
So we left, and went for a bike ride through Tiergarten, where we got lost and had to check the map…
But we eventually found our way home, had a few beers, went out for supper and a visit to our favourite bar to play pool and have a few more beers.
We too got lost but isn’t it fun?
