I like older churches. The turrets on this one, I find particularly interesting and attractive. I can’t imagine they serve any purpose other than to enhance the beauty of the building. What did the congregation have to forgo in order to pay for such non-functional but attractive features?
Carleton Place Water Tower divides the sky between the overcast cloud that is leaving and the incoming blue sky with fluffy clouds. I’m still learning how to use my new wide angle lens. The tank on the tower doesn’t reall stick out like that.

I read Wolf Hall and Late Night on Air earlier this summer. I put a box of my old scifi books in my recent garage sale. Dangerous Visions didn’t sell, so I decided to read it again. It’s been so long since I read it it’s like the first time.
This blue heron regularly visits the shoreline near my home. When it flew in today I thought I’d try and get a closeup shot. By the time I had my camera ready, the little devil had found a secluded spot behind some alders along the shore. I managed to sneak down to within 10 metres of him without scaring him off. After he got over his nervousness at my presence he just stood there and groomed himself and basked in the sun. I waited quite a while, but he wouldn’t wander away from his sheltered spot. This was one of the few shots I got that wasn’t totally obscured by the alders.
I thought I’d create a black and white (well, sepia) version of yesterdays post. This is it.
Today I went with some friends to an arts and crafts sale at a country home with very pretty rustic gardens west of Perth, ON. There was a lot of stone and metal sculpture suitable for outdoors, as well as the usual art (painting, carving, glass etc.) more suitable for indoor installation. I bought a small (and expensive) custom made knife for my kitchen. On the way home, we just had to stop and browse around this picturesque cemetery.
On the way home from Bonnie’s place I stopped in the village of Appleton and took this shot of the general store. It’s now a residence.
My cell phone contract renewal coincided with the introduction of Apple’s new iphone. I thought that would be an opportunity to snag a good used iphone and, once again, try combining my phone and a PDA. I’ve done that now but it has taken more work than I expected. However, it works really well – much better than the Palm TREO combined cell phone and PDA that I tried years ago.
Now that I’ve done it I have realized all my eggs are in one basket. At least I only have one thing to keep track of.
