Hornby Island (arrival)

Barry left for the UK today and Maureen and I went up to Hornby Island for a visit. Every time I visit a new Gulf Island I think it is the best one I’ve seen. Hornby is no exception. We had a cabin right on the water, with a deck facing southwest overlooking Denman Islands and some snow capped peaks on Vancouver Island.

It had been a beautiful day with mostly clear skies. In the evening, the sunset was off to our left along the shoreline. It looked, at first, like it was going to be spectacular, but then it fizzled out to just a very nice one. It turned out to be the best one of the weekend though.

Of course, a camera with a zoom made it look a bit better than it did to the naked eye.

Beacon Hill Park (Again)

We were at the pub and on my way home I remembered that I had yet to take a picture today. M&B went on ahead while I looked for inspiration. With the late afternoon light shining through, the group sitting in the grass in the distance gave a bit of perspective to the size of these huge trees.

Boys Night Out

Maureen had her Landmark seminar session, so Barry and I got to spend some quality time together. We went to the James Joyce pub for dinner and some pool. The decor has a strong theme but is subdued, as is the rest of the atmosphere. A great place to enjoy another’s company – not one TV and the music is audible but not imposing. The food we had was good (not great) pub fare. The decor seemed to merit a photo …

More Beacon Hill Park

Another day, another walk through Beacon Hill Park. I had been downtown looking for something inspiring to photograph. I though maybe a street person. I couldn’t do it. It seemed like invading their space, even though I would have given them something in exchange. The problem is, once you ask, then they would pose – not what I wanted. Anyway inanimate objects are easier. So I took a shot of a water fountain hoping to catch the luminosity of the fountain and the water. Then the Canada goose interjected itself and I took this shot. It’s difficult to time the shot exactly with the shutter lag of the little camera I’m using. It almost worked…

Camas in Beacon Hill Park

The Camas are in bloom. Here’s a field of them – at least the part that was in my field of view.

Witty’s Lagoon

Today we visited Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park. There was a nice beach (even with some sand!) and a short walk to a waterfall. We had a nice picnic before our walk. Phil, Janice and I had made burgers yesterday in preparation. Burgers, beer, coleslaw and lots of sun – perfect!

Hello world!

This is my Photo a Day (PAD) blog. My intention in creating this blog is to create a breakthrough in my life. What is a breakthrough you might ask. Well, (and this is my definition) a breakthrough is a personal transformation that occurs when you overcome some obstacle that is preventing you from being the kind of person you want to be. There are two things that I would like to accomplish with this PAD.

  • become comfortable sharing my creative output
  • be more consistent in completing the projects and goals I set for myself
  • For the next year I will take at least one photograph and post one in an entry here. Some of these may be accompanied by my words. Some may not.

Here is my first picture. It reminds me of where I came to the decision to take on this project and also of the person who inspired me to do so.
